Interviewer: Hello, Angelo, thank you for joining us today. Could you tell us a bit about yourself and your role at Milan Fashion Campus?
Angelo Russica: Hello, thank you for having me. I’m Angelo Russica, and I’m responsible for Milan Fashion Campus. Over the years, I've had the privilege of working in the fashion industry, both as a fashion designer and, more recently, as the Director of Milan Fashion Campus. During my career, I’ve had many people reach out with various questions, so I’m happy to address one of the most frequently asked ones today.
Interviewer: That sounds great! What’s one of the most common questions you get asked?
Angelo Russica: One question I hear often is, Is it important to attend a fashion school to break into the world of fashion? It’s a good question, and the answer is generally yes. If you want to become a fashion designer, for example, you really need the skills to design, and that requires a solid background. You need to understand fashion history, the different fashion styles, and how to develop your craft. That kind of preparation is essential.
Interviewer: So it’s clear that a fashion school is important for certain careers. What about other roles in the fashion world?
Angelo Russica: That's a great point. For roles in areas like fashion marketing or editorial work, there are other types of institutions that may be better suited to those specific needs. Some of them offer a more specialized focus on these fields, which can be really beneficial.
Interviewer: That makes sense. Would you advise someone who's young to jump straight into a fashion school?
Angelo Russica: Sometimes, I actually suggest that young people pursue a general university education first. This gives them a broad academic foundation. After that, they can decide whether to specialize in fashion. With a general background, they’ll be better equipped to dive deeper into the fashion industry, whether it’s through a fashion school or other specialized programs.
Interviewer: So, you recommend a combination of both general education and specialized fashion training?
Angelo Russica: Exactly. It’s about building a well-rounded foundation first, and then narrowing the focus to fashion. This approach allows you to have a solid base while also honing in on the specific skills and knowledge needed for the fashion world.
Interviewer: Thank you for sharing that insight, Angelo! It sounds like a thoughtful approach to entering the fashion industry.
Angelo Russica: Thank you! I’m happy to share.
